BEST DELAY PEDALS
Presenting a selection of our favourite and best delay pedals at Music Junction.
What's a delay effect?
A delay or echo effect is the recording of an input signal, storing it, then playing it back after a period of time that you'll usually have the control over. With 3 main delay types, Tape Echo, Analog Effect units and Digital Units you can these days be as subtle or as adventurous as you like.
In no particular order here are some of the best in our opinion.
MXR M169 Carbon Copy Delay
An analog delay with old school bucket brigade technology. A warm, vintage delay. The modulation switch is a great feature, though the mod light being a bit bright! Covers anything from short slap back delays to longer up to 600ms rich Gilmour-esque type echoes. A modern classic.
TC Electronic Flashback 2 Delay Pedal
One of the most widely used and famous delay pedals getting around on pedal boards. The TC Electronics Flashback 2 Delay. A hugely versatile digital delay with an enormous amount of depth in its functions. Toneprint functions available as well. So much pedal for the bucks.
NUX Atlantic Delay and Reverb Pedal
Not strictly a delay pedal but one we couldn't go past for the ambient enthusiasts. Combining Delay and Reverb with a tap tempo no less, the NUX Atlantic pedal is stoooopid cheap for what you get. From 40ms up to a whooping 1500ms it has all the delay you'll likely need with the ability to pair it with some really beautiful reverbs.
Boss DD-3 Digital Delay
Built like a tank and though it's big brother the DD-7 has more features, we appreciate the simplicity and great sound of this iconic digital delay pedal. Should be front of the line if accurate and clean delays are what you're seeking.
Strymon Volante Magnetic Echo Machine
Strymon have successfully produced the most powerful and inspiring delay pedal we've played. Having captured the sound and vibe of three sought after vintage delays, Drum, Tape and Studio, adding a plethora of control, the Strymon Volante is a must experience. Yes it's expensive. Worth it? You bet.
MOOER Ana Echo Analog Delay Pedal
The most affordable and smallest footprint pedal on the list. Though don't judge too early. This is a powerful little beauty. Warm and clear with an analog delay time up to 300ms. Uses the quite renowned 3205 BBD chip too! Smaller knobs can be a pain to change quickly, particularly on stage, aside from that, a great delay pedal.
We get asked a lot on must have pedals to buy and where to start. Delay and echo is a great tool to add ambience, warmth and texture to your tone. From country slap back style delays to long delay times for lead guitar, delay pedals are a great place to start on your pedal journey.
