The Size-Up Program

Overview

Our Size-Up Program is designed to support growing musicians. We want to ensure that every student has access to a correctly sized, high-quality instrument. When your student is ready for their next size, we invite you to trade-in your current instrument for credit toward your next purchase. Only Instruments purchased from Music Junction qualify. Instruments purchased from third-parties do not qualify.

How Trade-In Value is Determined

Unlike a "fixed-rate" buyback, our trade-in values are tailored to the specific condition of your instrument. Our expert staff evaluates each instrument based on three key pillars:

1. Current Market Value: The current retail demand for your specific brand and model.

2. Physical Condition: The integrity of the wood, varnish, and fittings.

3. Refurbishment Costs: The cost required to bring the instrument back to "Gallery Condition" for the next student. This includes new strings, bridge adjustments, bow rehairing, and professional cleaning.

Terms & Conditions

To keep this program sustainable for our community, the following rules apply:

Valuation: A final trade-in offer is only provided after a physical 20-point inspection in-store. We cannot provide binding quotes over the phone or via email.

The 50% Rule: The maximum trade-in credit allowed is 50% of the retail price of the new instrument being purchased.

One-for-One: We generally accept one trade-in instrument per new purchase.

Exclusions: Instruments with significant structural damage (such as soundpost cracks or broken scrolls) or non-professional "home repairs" may be ineligible for the program.

Accessories: Cases and bows are evaluated as part of the total outfit; however, heavily worn cases or damaged bows may reduce the overall trade-in value.

Summary:

+ The instrument was originally purchased from MJ by the same customer looking to make the new purchase (instruments purchased from a third party do not qualify).
+ The general condition of the instrument must meet our high standards.
+ Electric instruments do not qualify.

We do not guarantee a fixed price or percentage as a return on your instrument until we have examined it at the time of trading in. When calculating the trade-in price we take into account the current perceived market value, the general condition of the item as well as the cost of any repairs or refurbishment. We will generally only accept one trade-in item per transaction and the maximum value of the trade-in must not be greater than 50% of the new item being purchased.
