Conn CHR511 Intermediate Double French Horn in F/Bb — Geyer Wrap
Conn has been building French horns in America for over a century, and the CHR511 is where that professional heritage becomes accessible to the advancing player. Sitting between student and professional tiers, this intermediate Geyer-wrap double horn brings key components of Conn’s flagship 11DN directly to the player — without the professional price tag.
The defining feature of the CHR511 is its Geyer-style wrap. Preferred by many players for its compact, balanced feel in the hand, the Geyer configuration routes the tubing to keep the instrument’s weight centred, reducing fatigue across long rehearsals and enabling a more natural hand position. The .476” bore delivers the ideal blend of resistance and openness — enough back-pressure for focused intonation and a centred tone, with the freedom to project powerfully when the music demands it.
The mouthpipe is taken directly from the professional 11DN model — the same corrosion-resistant nickel silver leadpipe that Conn fits to its top-tier instruments. Paired with a CNC-machined mouthpiece receiver, it ensures precise airflow geometry and tonal consistency from the very first note. The small-throat yellow brass bell warms the sound naturally, producing the singing pianissimos and commanding fortes that advancing players need as their repertoire grows.
Additional features drawn from Conn’s professional lineup include the mouthpipe water key, adjustable finger hook, and reversible change rotor — allowing players to configure the fourth rotor in either F-to-Bb or Bb-to-F orientation to suit their playing style. Every CHR511 is inspected and set up by Conn Selmer technicians in Elkhart, Indiana, and is held to the same exacting standards as Conn’s professional instruments.
Supplied with a Holton Farkas mouthpiece — the industry benchmark for French horn, developed with Chicago Symphony principal hornist Philip Farkas — and a durable ABS case with replaceable handle and feet.
